Angela, a mother of two, appears to be living her best life, but she is subjected to daily domestic violence by her controlling husband Olivier.

Joanne Froggatt's breakthrough role in Coronation Street was as Zoe Tattersall (1997-98). She has since appeared in cult classics such as Life on Mars, A Street Cat Named Bob, The Commons, and Liar. She is best known, however, for her award-winning performance as Anna Bates in Downton Abbey.

"I am honored to be working with Two Brothers Pictures again, and this important and timely story from the brilliant Harry and Jack Williams is unlike anything I've read before," Joanne said of her role. Angela is a complex and intriguing character, and I hope that audiences will be drawn into her gripping, and sometimes heartbreaking, journey in the same way that I was. "

Olivier (Michiel Huisman)

When it comes to Olivier, looks can be deceiving. On the surface, he appears to be a hardworking family man who has built a picture-perfect family life that conceals domestic abuse and sinister secrets from his past.

Michiel Huisman is a Dutch actor best known for his roles in Margot, World War Z, Nashville, Orphan Black, the new HBO Max exclusive The Flight Attendant, and Game of Thrones.

"I'm proud to be a part of such a thrilling and clever story with so many twists and turns," Michiel says. I can't wait to play Olivier and work with the incredible Joanne and Samuel. "

Samuel Adewunmi (Ed)

Ed, a private investigator, makes shocking revelations about Angela's abusive husband, but does he have ulterior motives?

Samuel Adewunmi made his television debut in The Missing and has since appeared in The Hatton Garden Job, Doctor Who, Stan Lee's Lucky Man, and is set to play the villain Carcer Dun in the upcoming TV series The Watch, which is loosely based on characters and adventures from Terry Pratchett's Discworld.

"I always find myself drawn to characters like Ed when watching or reading dramas, and it's no different with Angela Black," Samuel says of his desire to play Ed. That, combined with the chance to work with Craig Viveiros (again), as well as Harry and Jack Williams on a compelling story like Angela Black, is both exciting and fortuitous, especially given the impact 2020 has had on all industries, including film and television. I consider myself fortunate. ”

Henry Douthwaite (Wuthering Heights), Ambreen Razia (Trigonometry), Barry Aird (Fortitude), and Jade Anouka (His Dark Materials) are among the other actors attached to ITV's Angela Black project.

What happened in the first episode of 'Angela Black'?

Ed and Angela in Angela Black

Ed, the mysterious man, showed up at Angela's house, claiming her husband wants her dead.   (Image courtesy of ITV)

Within the first five minutes of the first episode of this chilling psychological thriller, Angela is subjected to harrowing violence at the hands of her husband. Olivier not only left her with a bloodied and bruised face, but he also knocked out one of Angela's teeth.

But, while Anglea tried to hide what was going on at home by blaming her injuries on a door accident, it soon became clear that there was another sinister layer to this drama when a mysterious stranger named Ed began following her.

Angela realized a man she had briefly met the evening before while escaping the toxic environment at home was following her in the car after picking up her kids from a sleepover. Despite her efforts to shake him off, he followed her to the park where her two boys were playing.

Ed introduced himself as a man who "helps people sort things out" and informed Angela that Olivier had hired him to follow her and dig up dirt that he could use against her in a custody battle if he filed for divorce. Angela was taken aback by the news because, while she was aware that her husband could be violent, she had no idea he had a hidden agenda.

Angela didn't believe anything Ed said at first, but he insisted on telling the truth and won her round. Angela then asked him to accompany Olivier, but he declined, stating that he did not want to get involved. However, he reappeared just a few days later, this time mysteriously appearing at Angela's kitchen window one evening during a storm. This time, Ed arrived with the disturbing news that Olivier had escalated his request and had asked Ed to kill her.

In shock at the news, Angela reluctantly accepted a phone from Ed, who told her she could call him whenever he needed her, claiming he was concerned about her well-being. Fans, however, believe Ed has a hidden agenda, or that he does not exist at all and is merely a figment of Angela's imagination.

What happened in 'Angela Black' episode two?

Angela Black's second episode began with Angela questioning Olivier about his missing colleague Yuki, whom Ed claimed in episode one had been murdered by Olivier.

Angela met Ed in a market and he told her she needed to find out what Olivier had hidden in his suitcase, despite her husband's refusal to reveal anything. She nearly got caught when she broke into Olivier's office in the middle of the night, failing to get into his briefcase but inadvertently knocking over a fountain pen, which then leaked all over the office carpet Angela finally had the opportunity to break into the case when Olivier left it behind one morning by accident. Angela finally found a handwritten letter that Yuki had sent, along with a picture of her in underwear, after a race against time to get into the briefcase before the courier arrived to retrieve it.

Angela begged Ed to accompany her to the police station with this evidence. However, Ed quickly reminded her that if he knew everything about her, the cops would. even in relation to Edgewater While we are no closer to discovering what Edgewater is, this suggests that something sinister occurred in Angela's past. Later, Ed took Angela to the woods, claiming that this is where he and Ed buried Yuki's body, before telling him that his solution to her problems was for him to kill Olivier.

Angela, tired of the lies, told him she wasn't interested. At the end of the episode, however, she admitted to her sons that she had replaced their pet rabbit, which had been eaten by a fox, with a different one, leaving them both in tears. But is this the only lie she's about to confess, or is something far more sinister on the way?

What happened in 'Angela Black' episode three?

Angela Black episode three begins with Ed contacting Angela to inform her that they must get rid of Olivier that evening. He tells her to send the kids away for the night and hands her some sleeping pills to give to Olivier. Ed then instructs her to leave the back door unlocked and the lights turned off as a signal to Ed.

Angela is then supposed to dash over to a neighbor's house and request that the police be called because there is an intruder in her home. Meanwhile, Ed will sneak in and commit the murder.

When the police arrive to find out what happened, Angela follows the plan to the letter and rushes back across the road to her house. To her surprise, Olivier escapes the house unscathed. Ed interrogates Angela to determine why there is no evidence of a break-in. He also teaches her how to use an old rifle left to him by his grandfather so she can defend herself if something similar happens again in the future.

After several attempts to contact him, Angela finally meets Ed, who explains what happened and tells her they should try again because he's going to try to figure out what happened.

Olivier leaves Angela alone in the house, and after she's put the kids to bed, she receives a phone call from Ed. Ed explains that Olivier has discovered they attempted to murder him and is after them both, and he advises her to flee. When Angela notices a car in the driveway, she rushes to wake both children and then grabs the gun from downstairs.

She makes a stand at the front door with the rifle, but Olivier sneaks in through the back door, followed by the police. They arrest Angela, leaving Olivier with the children.

Angela is being questioned in custody about what occurred. She tells them everything about Ed and Yuki, but the cops reveal that they found no evidence of Ed and that the house where she was supposed to meet him has been empty for months. They also discovered no trace of him on the CCTV footage from the night of the break-in, nor did they discover the phone that Ed gave her.

They also give her a novel that is identical to Angela's story and was written by Ed Harrison, implying that Angela has had a mental breakdown and that Ed is not real. Angela is scheduled to be hospitalized under the Mental Health Act as a result of this and "the history of events at Edgewater." Is Ed real Or did she make him up?

What happened in 'Angela Black' episode four?

Joanne Froggatt in Angela Black episode 4

Angela almost drowned her baby son at a local recreation center called Edgewater, according to a flashback.   (Image courtesy of ITV)

More of Angela's backstory was revealed in Episode 4, and we now know what happened at Edgewater. Edgewater turns out to be a recreation center, where a sleep-deprived Angela nearly drowned her baby son, believing he was Jesus and could walk on water.

Her belief that her son was an incarnation of Jesus arose after her mother died at 2 a.m., at the same time that her baby son, who had been crying since birth, miraculously stopped crying and became a much happier baby.

But, in addition to learning that this isn't Angela's first stay in a mental health facility, we also discovered that Olivier's abuse has been going on for years. A flashback in the episode showed Angela's husband concealing the fact that her dying mother had been attempting to contact her, as well as Angela having to lie about attending her own mother's funeral after she died.

Angela was released from the unit after receiving treatment at the hospital, but she soon had to fight Olivier in court to see her sons. She was given four hours per week, which broke her heart, and Olivier was clearly overjoyed.

Angela ended the episode looking for Ed, the man everyone had convinced her was a figment of her imagination. Angela found Ed at a local football match after noticing a football badge on the drawing she did of him while he was in the hospital. It wasn't long before Angela noticed Ed, and judging by the expression on Ed's face when their gazes met across the pitch, he clearly recognizes her as well.

So Ed is genuine. Will he, however, admit to their shared dark past?

What happened in 'Angela Black' episode five?

Angela Black episode five - Angela with her kids

Angela Black's fifth episode saw Angela corner Ed at a football game, where she discovered his real name is Theo Walters. We soon discovered that Theo didn't want anything to do with Angela because he had been working with Olivier all along.

Angela was determined to figure out what was going on between her husband and the mysterious Theo now that she was slowly returning to the woman she was before Olivier began his coercive control.

Angela cornered one of Theo's ex-girlfriends in a nail salon after doing some research on him in order to learn more about his past. Although the nail technician was surprised to be questioned about her ex by a stranger, she soon spilled the beans about Theo's financial struggles, leading Angela to discover the truth about what happened on Halloween night.

Angela obtained Olivier's bank statements after learning from Theo's ex that his car dealership had been burned down, resulting in him receiving a massive insurance payout.

Angela realized that Olivier was the one who set fire to the car showroom in exchange for Theo showing up in her life and convincing her that Olivier was trying to kill her.

Angela only needed proof to show the police that her husband was attempting to frame her. However, when she went to the petrol station and requested to see the CCTV, it was later revealed that Theo had been following her when she discovered the CCTV system smashed and the petrol station assistant severely beaten.

Angela went to their house, determined to confront Olivier with what she knew, only for him to start attacking her on the front porch. He only came to a halt when their eldest son emerged, having been awakened by the noise. But, with Angela's determination to reclaim her children, will she be able to prove Olivier has been coercively controlling her? With the CCTV footage no longer available, where can she look for evidence that she is the victim in all of this?

What happened in 'Angela Black' episode six?

Angela was finally able to break free from Olivier's grip and reveal his true colors to the world.   (Image courtesy of ITV)

The final episode of Angela Black saw Angela finally getting her revenge on Olivier for the years of abuse he had subjected her to.

Angela was more determined than ever to reclaim her children after discovering that Theo and Olivier had been working together. But, with no one believing her version of events, she was forced to take drastic measures, driving the boys from school to a remote caravan park in Wales in the hope that Olivier would not be able to find them. Her plan appeared to be working at first, but when the boys disobeyed her by turning on her phone and contacting their friends, Olivier was able to track them down using a tracking app he had on his phone.

Angela realized she'd have to play Olivier's games if she wanted to have a chance of getting her life back on track after he snatched the boys away when she wasn't looking. With the police still believing Olivier's version of events, Angela went undercover and tracked down Craig Mantle, an old associate of Theo Walters who had also owed him a favor, this time in exchange for locking up a man.

Angela persuaded Theo to work with her after giving him her wedding and engagement rings as payment, and she broke into his car showroom, Mantle Motors (which had been signed over to him as part of the shady deal with Craig Mantle), and began smashing up expensive cars. Meanwhile, Theo went to Olivier's and told him what was going on before going to the car showroom to confront her. But, unbeknownst to Olivier, Theo and Angela were now collaborating, and they soon had him bundled into the boot of a car before hitting each other with a crowbar and framing Olivier for the attack when the cops arrived.

Both Angela and Theo claimed that Olivier had beaten them in a jealous rage, and their story seemed to fit when, during his police interview, Olivier was later shown CCTV footage of him attacking Angela on his doorstep in episode five.

But, as the cops carted Olivier away, it became clear that Angela was far from done. As Theo talked on the phone with Angela while packing up his flat, his blood ran cold when she turned the tables on him, telling him she'd tracked down the gang member who was serving time in prison due to Theo's false testimony. A loud bang was heard on Theo's front door as they talked, implying that his shady past was finally catching up with him.

At the end of the episode, Angela was seen talking to her lawyer, who informed her that Olivier would be imprisoned for a long time, and later she was seen playing the piano, one of the many things Olivier had forbidden her to do. implying that she was finally free of her abusive husband for good.
