   Change the lock. Turn the key in the new cylinder until the lock cam is flush with the cylinder body. The cam must be flush with the cylinder body in order to fit back into the empty socket smoothly. Insert the new cylinder all the way into the socket, just as the old cylinder was. Turn the key slightly to allow the lock cam to properly position itself within the socket. Keep the key inside the lock.

   • You are essentially reversing the steps you took to remove the original lock cylinder.

   Replace the retaining screw in the lock faceplate. Reintroduce the retaining screw into the screw hole. With a screwdriver, twist the screw to the right and reinstall it.

   • Turn the key a few times to the right and left to test the lock, and gently tug on the key when it is turned to both the right and left positions. This checks to see if the lock cylinder is securely in place.
   • Remove the key from the lock only after the retaining screw has been reinstalled.
