Oh no! The travel cot's side won't budge! Help! The travel cot won't remain in an upright position! No, seriously, the travel cot won't collapse! I'm starting to think it's broken!

Sound familiar? Are you currently facing any of these issues with your travel cot or any other problems related to it? Well, you're in luck! This post is here to help! I have made a quick video demonstrating how to set up, collapse, and resolve issues with the sides of your travel cot. In other words, I will address all those pesky problems that make using travel cots so frustrating.

Having used various travel cots over the course of 5 years, including those we owned as well as ones found in holiday cottages or caravans, I can confidently say that this is how most branded travel cots operate – they are all pretty much the same! So whether your travel cot is from Mothercare, Babystyle, Joie, Red Kite, or any other brand, they tend to function in a similar manner and can get stuck in the same way. I will show you how to set up your travel cot, keep the sides in place, collapse it, and ensure that the sides click and unclip properly.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Assemble a Travel Cot

  • Connect the sides together by pulling them up until they become rigid. Both halves of the side should align perfectly. Try to connect opposite sides simultaneously to form a rectangular shape.
  • Press down on the middle part of the cot's base, making sure that the legs can extend outward. Lifting a side in the corner can assist in this process.

Step-by-Step Guide: How to Disassemble a Travel Cot

It's essentially the reverse of the assembly process!

  • Gently lift the middle part of the cot's base using the loop. Be prepared for it to fall over, so make sure you hold onto one side!
  • Release the sides by squeezing the latch in the center of each side, causing them to become loose and swivel. To ensure an even release, unclip opposite sides together.

Let me know if these instructions are helpful, and if you prefer written instructions, I have included a guide at the end of this post.

Have you encountered the same struggles with travel cots as we have? Share your experiences in the comments, and let me know if this guide has been helpful to you too!

Our battle with the travel cot was real, which is why I have been meaning to write this post for years. We have faced numerous challenges when H was little, struggling to properly set up the cot before we finally mastered it. Putting up a travel cot is actually quite simple once you know the technique, but assembling and disassembling it is something we rarely do. Many times, we would arrive late, desperately trying to assemble the cot for a tired baby or toddler, and there I was, exclaiming "YOU DO IT!" to my husband when I couldn't get the side to stay up.

I established this blog with the intention of providing assistance to others. For example, I wrote about resolving the issue of the warning light for the Perfect Prep temperature during a heatwave, or how to ensure a toddler's hat remains in place. Now, I have another topic that has been on my agenda for quite some time: the process of setting up and dismantling a travel cot, including troubleshooting when the sides won't click or collapse.

I sincerely hope that this information proves beneficial to those facing difficulties with their travel cots, whether it be a problematic side, a cot that refuses to collapse, or any other related issues. Please share your feedback and experiences in the comments section below, and feel free to share this post with your friends if you found it helpful.

Thank you!
