Procedures for Altering a Key Safe's Password
The Key Safe Company offers two types of key safes: Police accredited and Classic range. The procedure for changing a code in your KeySafe varies depending on the model, so follow the instructions carefully. Instead, if you want to set a code, go to our KeySafe coding page.

Modifying the code on your C500 Pro Police Accredited KeySafe
Before you begin, please keep the following in mind:
- You must create your own combination, ideally between 5 and 7 digits long, with a mix of numbers and letters.
- Each number/letter can only be used once.
- Use a combination that is difficult to guess.
- There is no override or reset code available. Make a note of your code and keep it safe.
Making your selection
- Pull the black weather cover open.
- Release the CLEAR button (located in the center of the C500).
- Enter your current code, then turn the OPEN dial 180° clockwise to open the lid. The word OPEN will now be reversed.
- Slide the white plastic instruction card on the lid towards the KeySafe's hinge and remove it. This could reveal a red caution sticker. Please read before proceeding.
- Turn the open dial on the front of the C500 Pro counterclockwise 180°, back to the locked position, without closing the C500 Pro lid and leaving the KeySafe open. The word OPEN will now be read correctly. Check that the "GREEN" triangle on the locking bolt is visible.
- On the back of the lid, there are twelve grey buttons. Each of these grey buttons corresponds to the C500's black buttons on the front. Each of these buttons has a small triangle-shaped arrow. Arrows pointing away from the hinge are turned off and do not belong to the combination. Arrows pointing to the hinge are activated and part of the combination.
Important Before the code can be changed, the locking pin must be in the LOCKED position. Forcing the setting buttons down may cause damage to the C500 Pro and void the warranty.
- Turn all of the grey dials to the OFF position using the white plastic card provided (code change tool). This will cause your combination to be reset. If you encounter resistance, stop and double-check that the locking bolt is LOCKED and the word OPEN is positioned correctly on the OPEN dial.
Please keep in mind that you should not use a screwdriver.
- Turn the OPEN dial clockwise 180° to ensure that your KeySafe code has been reset. Without entering a code, the OPEN dial should freely rotate and the locking bolt should retract. If the OPEN dial does not turn, the grey dial is still set to the ON position. Check that all of the dials are turned off.
- Turn the open dial on the front of the C500 Pro counterclockwise 180° back to the locked position without closing the C500 Pro lid. The word OPEN will now be spelled correctly. Confirm that the "GREEN" triangle on the locking bolt is visible.
- To add a number or letter to the code, turn the grey dial 180° until the button completely pops up and the arrow points in the ON direction (towards the hinge).
- When your code is ready, Replace the red sticker and the white plastic card on the back of the lid.
Putting your combination to the test
- Making sure the word OPEN is the correct way up on the OPEN dial while the C500 Pro is still open If not, turn the OPEN dial counter-clockwise until it is the proper way up. Press each button on the front of the C500 until it clicks, using only the buttons in your combination. If you accidentally press the wrong button, press the clear button and enter your code again.
- To open, turn the OPEN dial clockwise 180°. The OPEN handle will fully turn and the locking bolt will retract if the combination is correct. If not, press the CLEAR button and double-check that you entered the correct code. If you are still having trouble, see "Setting your combination."
Closing and opening your C500
- Hold down the CLEAR button.
- Enter the combination If you enter an incorrect combination, press the CLEAR button and enter it again.
- To open, turn the OPEN dial 180° clockwise. The combination will be cleared when you turn the handle.
It should be noted that the open dial is not intended to be forced open. If an incorrect code is entered and the handle is forced, the latch will unlatch from the locking mechanism and the handle will turn freely without opening. Turn the handle all the way back to the locked position (OPEN is the correct way up) and it will snap back into place.
- Close the lid and turn the OPEN dial counter-clockwise 180° back to the locked position to relock.
If you have any difficulties setting or changing the combination code, please call The Key Safe Company at 0330 363 0303 and we will do our best to help you over the phone.

Changing the code on a Classic KeySafe
Please keep the following in mind before you begin:
- You must create your own combination, ideally with between 5 and 7 digits.
- Each number can be used only once.
- Use a combination that is difficult to guess.
- There is no override or reset code available. Take a note of your code and keep it somewhere secure.
Configuring your combination
- Pull the black weather cover open.
- Press and then release the CLEAR button (located in the center of the KeySafe).
- Remove the lid (the section with the black buttons) by pressing the OPEN button.
-
Remove the white plastic instruction card on the back of the lid. This will reveal ten grey buttons on the lid's back. Each of these grey buttons corresponds to the black buttons on the KeySafe's front. Each of these buttons has a small arrow on it. Arrows pointing to the locking pin are turned off and do not form part of the combination. Arrows pointing away from the locking pin indicate that the combination is ON.
- Turn all of the grey dials to the OFF position using the white plastic card provided (code change tool). This will clear your combination. Then, using the same code editing tool, create your new code.
Please keep in mind that you should not use a screwdriver.
To add a number to your code, use the code change tool and press the grooved button next to the number you want to set. Turn the button 180 degrees until the arrow points in the ON direction (away from the hinge). To remove a number or letter from the code, use the code change tool to press the grooved button next to the number you want to remove. Turn the button 180° until the arrow points in the OFF direction (towards the locking pin).
- Replace the white plastic card on the lid's back.
Putting your combination to the test
- Press each button in your combination on the front of the KeySafe until it clicks. If you accidentally press the wrong button, press the clear button and enter your code again.
- Open by pressing the OPEN button down. If the combination is correct, the locking pin will fully retract. If it does not, press the CLEAR button and double-check that you entered the correct code. If you continue to have problems, see "Setting your combination."
To open and close your KeySafe, you must enter your code.
KeySafe opening and closing
- After you have tested your code, you must enter it again to close the KeySafe. You do not have to press the OPEN button once you have entered your code. Between entering your code and pressing the OPEN button, there is no time limit.
- Offer the bottom of the lid into the vault, pull down on the OPEN button, and close the lid. Once in position, press and hold the OPEN button. Slide the OPEN button to see if your KeySafe is now locked shut. If the Keysafe is properly locked, you should be unable to open it without entering your code again.
