Age Limit for Vaping in the United Kingdom

In the UK, you must be aged 18 or older to vape legally. This also means that you can only buy vaping-related products such as e-cigarettes and e-liquids if you are an adult aged 18 or over. Is the Age Limit the Same for 0% Nicotine E-liquid?

There is some uncertainty about the laws governing zero-nicotine e-liquids, as regulations state that selling e-liquids with nicotine content to anyone under 18 is considered illegal. Some people may find this confusing, but reputable vaping vendors like The Electronic Cigarette Company do not sell nicotine-free vape juice to anyone under the age of 18, as this is consistent with our strict age verification processes.

Legal Age to Vape Around the World

United States

In 2019, the US government established new vaping laws, which increased the minimum age for vaping to 21. Although these laws apply on a federal level, individual states in the US may choose to adopt stricter or more lenient laws on vaping as they see fit. Many states currently allow the sale of vaping liquids and devices to those over the age of 18 or 19.

Australia

Similar to the United Kingdom, Australia has set the legal vaping age to 18. However, regulations are particularly stringent when it comes to the sale of vaping products. Under the Public Health (Tobacco) Act 2008, retailers are prohibited from displaying e-cigarette products either inside or outside of their stores. Furthermore, e-cigarettes containing nicotine are completely banned in Australia and only those which are prescribed by a physician may be used.

Canada

In Canada, there are no overarching federal laws governing the buying or use of vaping products, but each province has its own set of rules. In Ontario, for example, the legal minimum age for vaping is 19.

Europe

Since the United Kingdom has now withdrawn from the European Union, it continues to follow the Tobacco Products Directive 2016 introduced by the EU. It may still continue to follow these laws even after Brexit.

Vaping laws vary considerably from country to country, and they are constantly subject to change as new research and data comes to light. However, some countries that have banned vaping entirely include Turkey, Thailand, Belgium, and Mexico.
