In what way do I access the information contained in my smart meter?

One of the numerous incredible advantages of having a smart meter is that you should never have to submit manual readings again. However, there may be times when this is still necessary, particularly if you have a first-generation (SMETS1) meter that has not yet been enrolled in the smart network. That's why we've put together the step-by-step guides below, just in case we ever need a reading.

If you have a traditional meter, see our How to Read Your Meter guide.

It's worth noting that if we installed your smart meter(s), you'll have either a Landis & Gyr or an EDMI system, which you can learn more about here. The guide below also includes instructions on how to read these meters.

We've got you covered if you already know what kind of meter you have.

Smart meters for electricity

Smart gas meters

Before you begin:

Check that you're looking at your smart meter on the wall, not your in-home display (IHD). Regardless of how good your IHD is, it's always best to take readings from your actual meter.

Smart meters for electricity:

It's important to remember that electricity reads are recorded in "kWh" (kilowatt hours), so keep an eye out for this value when cycling through your display (but ignore the numbers after the decimal place).

If you own a keypad,

  4. Continue to press 6 on the keypad until you see 'IMP R02' followed by 8 digits - this is usually your off-peak/night reading.
