How to Stream Sky TV to Another Room
If you have Sky's digital TV service, you may be thinking about connecting it to other rooms in your home. We go over the options.
Sky-watching in multiple rooms...
If you want to get Sky in different rooms of your house, there are three options:
- Connect your Sky box to a second TV with high-quality co-ax aerial cable, or
- Use a wireless video sender to connect your Sky box to a second TV, or
- Purchase an additional Sky box for the second TV set.
Following that, we'll go over all of your options:
Option 1: Use an aerial cable to connect your Sky Digibox to a second TV set.

Upside: This option eliminates the need for an additional set-top box or Sky subscription. - Downside: You must run an aerial cable through your home to the other TV.
- Downside: A Sky box can only show one thing at once. You will only be able to watch whatever is on the main Sky box (i.e. e You can't watch one Sky channel in one room and another in another)
This option requires you to run coax aerial cable from the back of your Sky box to the back of the second TV set. To reduce interference, you should try to use high-quality double-screen coax aerial cable.
Maplin and Argos sell extension kits in various lengths. An example of an extension kit is shown below.
Maplin.co.uk has TV aerial extension kits (15 or 25 metres) for under £20.
If you don't want to use an aerial extension kit, you'll need a length of co-ax aerial cable, a bag of cleats to nail the aerial cable to your skirting board, and a co-ax aerial plug for each end.
Once you've connected the aerial lead, look for two aerial output sockets labeled RF1 and RF2 on the back of the Sky box. Connect one end of your aerial extension lead to the RF2 socket and the other end to the second TV set.

After you've made the connection, the final step is to connect the second TV to the Sky box's output. Your Sky box should be broadcasting on Channel 68 by default, so set a spare preset on your TV to that channel and you should be good to go.
More than one television Consider using a splitter or booster if you want to connect to more than one TV:
Splitter for Aerials This is useful for splitting a single aerial to feed two TVs. Maplin stocks it.
Aerial Booster with multiple outputs, useful if signal loss occurs over a long cable run. Maplin stocks it.
If you can't tune your TV in or need to change the Sky box's default channel number, you can check the RF output settings from a hidden menu option on your Sky box:
- On the Sky remote, press 'Services,' then type 4 0 1 and press 'Select' (HD boxes: 'Services,' then 'Select')
- Choose the "RF outlets" option.
- Change the RF channel number to a number of your choosing (between 21 and 68). It is critical not to conflict with a TV service on the same phone number. If one of your TV channels becomes fuzzy, change the RF channel number again.

Also, if you're feeding multiple TV sets or have a long cable run, you may need a splitter or booster to split and amplify the aerial co-ax output without sacrificing too much quality.
If you've connected your Sky box to a second TV via an aerial, the next thing you might want to do is be able to change channels on your Sky box from the second room.
Get a Sky TV Link/Eye to do this. This connects to your aerial cable and your second TV set, and it has a small infrared eye that you place near your TV. When you point a Sky remote at an eye, a signal is sent down the aerial wire to the Sky box, where it changes the channel.

Option 2: Wirelessly connect your Sky Digibox to a second TV.
- Upside: This option eliminates the need for an additional set-top box or Sky subscription.
- Downside: A Sky box can only show one thing at once. You will only be able to watch what the main Sky box is showing (i.e. e You can't watch one Sky channel in one room and another in another.)
There is no need to run cables with this option. Purchase a Wireless Video Sender Kit, which includes both a transmitter and a receiver. These connect to a spare SCART socket on your Sky box as well as a SCART socket on your second television set.

Option 3: Purchase a second Sky Box.
Getting a second Sky box for the other room is usually the more expensive option, but it allows you to watch a different digital TV channel in each room.
- Upside: You can watch one Sky channel in one room and another Sky channel in another.
- Upside: Sky will come and connect everything for you with no effort on your part.
- Downside: For each additional box, you must purchase a Multiroom subscription.

Each room will have its own Sky box with Sky Multiroom. Each box will be cabled to your satellite dish You won't need a second dish because each dish can support up to eight boxes (the dish must be equipped with an Octo LNB). Sky and Sky HD boxes require two feeds from the dish, so one dish can only support four Sky boxes or eight standard Sky boxes. More information on LNBs

Q How can I get HD from my Sky HD box into another room?
Because the RF output is incapable of sending HD and SCART, a video sender is out of the question. You have two choices:
- Run an HDMI cable to the second TV (a long cable run will be very expensive) - because the Sky HD box only has one HDMI out, you'll need an HDMI splitter or an HDMI extender.
- Choose Sky Multiroom and install a second HD box.
Q Is it possible to change channels if my Sky box is in another room?
Yes You have two options: use a Sky TV Link (which connects the TV and Sky box via a co-ax cable) or get a wireless remote control extender.
Q My Magic Eye TV link is broken.
Here are some things to look into:
- Socket: Check that the TV Link is connected to the RF2 socket on your Sky box, as the RF1 socket is not powered.
- Power: Make certain that the RF2 socket has power turned on. This is a secret engineers menu option. To access this, use the Sky remote control to select 'Services,' then type 4 0 1 and press 'Select.' ('Services' > 0 0 1 > 'Select' on Sky HD boxes) Navigate to RF Outlets and switch the power to RF2.
- Booster Some users may experience issues if they use a signal booster and a Magic Eye TV link, as these can interfere with commands from the Sky RF2 socket. Look for a booster that includes a Digital Bypass.
- Last resort: If you're still having trouble, double-check that the cables are properly connected, turn off the Sky box, and try again.
