Guide for Doing It Yourself: Drying a Wall with a Drylining Technique.
We are thrilled to share our latest home improvement project: the installation of our new bi-fold doors in the dining room. The doors are not only aesthetically pleasing but also highly functional, marking a significant accomplishment on our ever-growing to-do list. However, despite this success, there is still much finishing work left to complete, as is often the case with home renovation projects.
Although the exterior of our home looks great with the new doors, the interior is another story. The walls are devoid of plaster, and what little remains is deteriorating by the day. Additionally, we have no skirting or architrave, and there is a gaping hole in the floor. Even stepping outside requires adding a step. While we could have enlisted the window company that installed the doors to perform these finishing tasks, we opted to save some money and do it ourselves.
As expected, this seemingly straightforward finishing work turned into a much more complex undertaking. To complete these tasks properly and give justice to our new doors, we must remove the old plaster, dryline the walls, plaster them, fix the floor gap, add an architrave and skirting, and redecorate the entire room. The word "just" no longer applies.
Given that the dining room and kitchen were already filthy from the previous work, we decided to continue with the messy work before attempting a full cleanup. Knocking down the old plaster was messy and therapeutic, but it left the air thick with dust and took days to settle.
Although renovation work is an inevitable part of homeownership, we could do without the resulting dirt and debris. Now that we have cleared some of the debris, we will proceed to rebuild and fix the interior of our home. While drywall work may not be thrilling, it is highly enjoyable and falls into the "totally doable DIY" category.
