Do-It-Yourself Numeric Marquees.
Commence the season of graduation with a stimulating project that is both entertaining and impactful. Constructing marquee numbers is a DIY task that you can undertake and share with pals as your youngsters graduate over the years.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Creating Large Self-Supporting Marquee Numbers
It's time to celebrate, and what better way to do so than with huge decorations and lots of lights? Additionally, these enormous marquee numbers are ideal for almost all commemorations and can be personalized to fit any event.

Marquee Numbers
I constructed these marquee numbers from 3/4" plywood to ensure they are stable and sturdy. Furthermore, I took advantage of the natural 4' plywood width and created figures that extend to a height of 4'. It's go big or go home, right?

Next, I'll share the instructions on how to create these marquee numbers. The design comprises three digits: 2, 0, and 1.

Celebrate the following milestones with these marquee numbers:
- Graduation year
- Special Birthday
- Anniversary celebrations

Essential Supplies
Step 1: Using the plans found here, a pencil, and framing square, trace the outline of each number on a 3/4" plywood sheet (48" x 30"). Then, use a jigsaw to cut out each number.

Installation of Light Sockets
In the second step, please mark the location of each light socket before drilling a hole measuring 7/8" using a forstner bit.

Application of Paint

Step 3 requires the application of the first coat of paint before fixing the light sockets.
Marquee Lights
In Step 4, secure the sockets into the hole by using a staple on both sides and determine which end of the light string goes on top and bottom, depending on how you're fixing all the numbers. Also, ensure that any extra cord is stapled down.

Trim
In step 5, rip up the underlayment that measures 1/8" into strips of 5 1/2" wide. Then cut each strip to fit the different parts of the number. Secure the underlayment to the plywood letter using pneumatic staples and wood glue. The longest side should be started first and worked your way around until all parts are secured in place. Although this process may be a little tedious, it is worth it in the end.

To give the marquee numbers a sturdy base, cut a 2×10 to 30" length and then attach it to the plywood number using 2 1/2" spax screws. In this project, a 2×6 is being used since it will be placed on a table and secured with a clamp at the back.

Lastly, line up the numbers and connect them to power.
