Creating a Personal Hotspot on Your iPhone or iPad
An individual Hotspot permits you to distribute the mobile data connection of your iPhone or iPad (Wi-Fi Cellular) in situations where access to a Wi-Fi network is unavailable.
Establishing an Individual Hotspot
If you are unable to locate the Personal Hotspot option, please contact your network provider to confirm compatibility with your plan.
Connecting to an Individual Hotspot via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB
You have the option to connect to an Individual Hotspot using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, or USB. Additionally, with iOS 13 or later, devices linked to an Individual Hotspot will maintain connection even when the screen is locked, enabling the reception of notifications and messages.
Once a device connects to your Individual Hotspot, the status bar will turn blue and display the number of joined devices. The maximum number of devices that can connect to your Individual Hotspot simultaneously is contingent on your network provider and iPhone model. If additional devices are connected to your Individual Hotspot via Wi-Fi, the internet connection from the host device can only be accessed through mobile data.
Follow these steps to connect:
Wi-Fi
On the desired device, navigate to Settings > Mobile Data > Personal Hotspot or Settings > Personal Hotspot, ensuring that it is activated. Subsequently, verify the Wi-Fi password and the name of the phone. Remain on this screen until the other device successfully connects to the Wi-Fi network.
On the device you wish to connect, navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi and locate your iPhone or iPad in the provided list. Tap the corresponding Wi-Fi network to initiate the connection process. If prompted, enter the password for your Individual Hotspot.
Bluetooth
To ensure that your iPhone or iPad is discoverable, access Settings > Bluetooth and remain on the corresponding screen. Personal Hotspot supports Bluetooth connections with Mac and other third-party devices. For connecting an additional iOS device, Bluetooth must be utilized.
Enabling Automatic Family Access
You have the option to establish Family Sharing, which enables your family members to automatically join your Individual Hotspot without requiring the password. Follow these steps:
Disconnecting Devices
To sever the connection between a device and the network, deactivate the Personal Hotspot feature, disable Bluetooth, or detach the USB cable from your device.
Establish or Modify Your Wi-Fi Passcode
To establish a Wi-Fi passcode for setting up a Personal Hotspot, follow these steps: Go to the Settings menu, select Mobile Data and then Personal Hotspot, and finally, tap on the Wi-Fi passcode option.*Select a Wi-Fi passcode that consists of a minimum of eight characters, using only ASCII characters. It is important to note that non-ASCII characters, such as those found in languages such as Japanese, Russian, and Chinese, will prevent other devices from joining your Personal Hotspot. On the other hand, ASCII characters encompass the following:
- All lowercase and uppercase letters in the English language
- The numeric digits from zero to nine
- A selection of specific punctuation marks
* When you modify your passcode, any devices that are currently connected will be disconnected.

- It is important to acknowledge that certain applications and functionalities that rely on a Wi-Fi connection may not operate while utilizing a Personal Hotspot. For instance, conducting an iCloud backup or uploading photos to iCloud Photo Library or Photo Stream may not be possible.
