While it is unlikely that an individual will specifically target your account, there are automated hacking systems that attempt to hack email accounts in large quantities.

Avoid using easily guessable information such as your pet's name, place of birth, or favorite football team. Additionally, refrain from using your own surname, date of birth, the word 'password,' or simple number combinations.

Enabling Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

While your email account already has a password, it is advisable to add an extra layer of protection through two-factor authentication.

To enable this feature, click on your initial in the circle located in the top right-hand corner and select Manage your Google Account.

• For desktop users – click on Security on the left side of your screen. Under How you sign in to Google, choose 2-Step Verification.
• For mobile users – select Security below your profile picture, and then choose 2-Step Verification.

You will be prompted to re-enter your password on the following screen. Afterwards, you will be guided through the process on the next window, which will display Let's set up your phone.

If you opt for your mobile phone, a code will always be sent to you via SMS when you sign in to verify your identity. Ensure that the phone number is accurate and select "Text message." You will receive a code on your phone, which you should enter.

To return to your inbox, click on the Google apps menu button located next to your initial in the top right-hand corner (it resembles a square containing nine dots) and select "Gmail."

Once you have completed these steps, your email address will be activated and operational.
