Applying for the High Street Voucher scheme as the portal becomes available.

The long-awaited High Street Voucher scheme in Northern Ireland is now accepting applications.

These cards aim to stimulate the local economy in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic and are available to individuals over the age of 18.

To benefit from the scheme, the cards must be used before the end of November, and applications can be submitted until October 25.

Given the expected high demand of approximately 1.4 million applicants, Retail NI is urging people to exercise patience.

Glyn Roberts, Chief Executive of Retail NI, advises individuals to wait a few days before applying to avoid any potential delays or complications due to a surge in activity on the online portal. By doing so, applicants can ensure they receive their vouchers promptly.

Roberts acknowledges that, given the scale and ambition of the scheme, some issues may arise, and he encourages shoppers to remain patient.

As the High Street Voucher scheme is launched and consumers consider how to utilize their vouchers, the emphasis is placed on supporting local independent retailers. Shopping with these retailers ensures that 70% of every pound spent stays within the local economy, bolstering local producers and manufacturers.
