Looking for vibrant, perennial plants that will certainly catch your eye? Look no further than the lupine.

These bold plants feature stiff, erect flower spikes that grow from horizontal foliage, reaching heights of 1 to 4 feet. The pea or sweet pea-like flowers are produced in dense racemes, available in deep shades of blue, purple, yellow, pink, or white.

While lupines are short-lived perennials, they require little maintenance or care. Simply provide them with a sunny location, sufficient water, and well-drained soil, and you can expect a magnificent display that will last for many seasons to come.

Lupines are an outstanding addition to borders, xeric gardens, and wildscapes throughout several regions in California and British Columbia. Depending on your area and the variety you select, you can expect blooms from late spring through the first weeks of July. We suggest accompanying lupines with late-blooming, summertime favorites, such as zinnias, rudbeckias, or daisies, to maintain the vibrant colors well into autumn.

In addition to being deer-resistant, the flowers are a magnet for essential pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.
