Maris Piper, King Edwards, and Russet Potatoes are the best potatoes to use for homemade chips in the UK, according to us.
It is entirely optional to peel potatoes before cooking. Our children prefer peeled, and we don't mind either way.

How to Make Chips from Potatoes
We enjoy thick, chunky chips like those found in pubs or fish and chip shops.
Depending on the size of the potatoes, simply cut them into 2 or 3 strips along their longest length, then cut each of them into 3 again. Aim for the length and width of your fingers as a rough guide.

You could square the potato first to get even-sized chips, but I think that's a waste of food, so I don't.

To remove excess starch, rinse or soak the cut chips.
Is it necessary to parboil the chips before air frying them?
It is much better to parboil chunky chip shop style chips in the air fryer first, as this results in the perfect chip, soft and fluffy on the inside with a crispy chip outer.

Place the chips in a saucepan of cold water, bring to a boil, and cook for 5-7 minutes.
Remove them from the water and place them on a wire rack once they are soft enough to pierce with a fork.
This allows them to dry while the air fryer heats up.

The best chip oil
Most oils are suitable for air-fried chips; we used rapeseed oil, also known as canola oil in the United States.
Use vegetable oil, sunflower oil, olive oil, avocado oil, or coconut oil as desired.

We coat the parboiled chips evenly with a small amount of oil using a pastry brush.
Frylight or an oil sprayer could also be used. Especially beneficial for those preparing homemade chips while on a low-fat diet, slimming world, or weight watchers.
Using the air fryer to cook chips
It is best to cook only one layer of chips at a time in the air fryer; cooking too many at once will cause the chips to cook unevenly.
Time will vary depending on how thick the chips are cut, the type of air fryer used, and how well you like them cooked.
