Combining multiple photos allows you to deliver the most visual information in one powerful Instagram Story moment.
This is true for both fashion brands and the owner/manager of a dog influencer who wishes to share the best memories from Mr. Chonk has a bar mitzvah.
Instagram Story photo collages should be used regardless of your business or industry. There are three ways to accomplish this:
- In Instagram Story create mode, use the layout template.
- Using Instagram Story create mode to layer photos
- uploading a personalized collage created with a third-party app or photo-editing software
Because we're nice like that, we'll walk you through all three. (Keep that in mind when making the guest list for Mr. Chonk's next significant event )

How to Make an Instagram Story Collage: A Simple Method
We'll assume you didn't know Instagram has an in-platform way to make a collage on Instagram Stories because you're here.
But we don't blame you for missing this feature: it's strangely hidden away.
Here's how to find it and use it to display multiple images in a single full-screen Story design.
1. Launch Instagram and select the icon at the top of the screen. Choose a Story
2. This will bring up your camera roll. But don't get distracted by your lovely photographs. First, we must activate the create mode. To do so, click the camera icon.
3. A list of icons will appear on the left side of the screen. Tap the third icon from the top: a square with lines. This is the Layout icon.
4. Tapping the Layout icon will bring up a layout quadrant on your screen. You can now fill each segment with a new photo or something from your camera roll.
Option 1: Take a photograph To take a photo, simply tap the photo-capture button: the white circle in the center of the screen.
When you take a photo, it will fill that top left corner shot. Continue taking three more photographs.
To delete something and replace it with a new photo, tap the photo and then the delete icon.
Option 2: Choose a photo from your camera roll. To access your camera roll, tap the square camera-roll-preview icon in the bottom left corner of your screen.
Tap the photo you want to appear in the quadrant's top left corner. Repeat until there are four photos on the screen.
To delete something and replace it with a new photo, tap the photo and then the delete icon.
5. Are you satisfied with your collage? Check the box to confirm before continuing to add stickers, text, or effects. Alternatively, if you want to try a different layout, proceed to step 6.
6. Enter Layout mode and tap the rectangular grid icon directly below the Layout mode icon to select a different layout. This will bring up a menu where you can select a different grid style. Tap your preferred style, and then, as shown above, fill each segment with a photo capture or an image from your camera roll.
7. Click the check mark to confirm your design. Following that, you can add stickers, text, or effects. When you're ready to publish, tap the arrow in the bottom right corner.
8. Select your desired audience for your masterpiece and click Share.

Images can be enlarged, shrunk, shifted, or arranged in an overlapping pattern. It's time to let loose.
1. Launch Instagram and select the icon at the top of the screen. Choose a Story

3. Tap the sticker icon (the square with the smiling face) at the top of the screen. Scroll through the stickers to find the Camera Roll sticker, which will be a circle previewing your most recent photo with a mountain and sun logo overlaid on top. (We know that sounds complicated, but we honestly don't know how to put it any other way.) Hopefully, the image below will help to clarify. )
4. Select a photo to be included in your story. Drag it anywhere on the screen, or use your fingers to adjust the image's size and tilt. Then, to add another photo, tap the sticker icon once more.
Repeat until all of your photos are displayed on the screen. You can move and adjust them as you see fit.
5. Tap the colored circle at the top of the screen to change the background color. (You can also use the tools to add text or additional stickers if you want.) )
You can also change the shape of your images by tapping them — perhaps circles are more appealing to you.
